A Data Item Editor is used to insert a data item value into a field. In general, using the Data Item Editor allows your process to use a dynamic value or a value that is potentially different each time the process is started.
To use a Data Item Editor, complete the following steps:
- In the relevant field, click the drop-down arrow. A drop-down list of available editors is displayed.

Some activity fields default to only allow you to select a data item, so you do not have to first select the data item editor. |
- Select Data Item. The Data Item editor icon is displayed next to the drop-down arrow.
- Click the Data Item editor icon. A drop-down list is displayed, which lists your solution data items and process data items.

Solution items only support solution data items and some activity fields only support process data items, so you will not always see both solution data items and process data items. |
- Select a data item. The selected data item is displayed in the field.
