Before you can start and test a solution, you need to publish the solution to a BPM 5 runtime environment. The runtime environments are created during the BPM 5 installation process. When you publish a solution, you choose the runtime environment to which you want to publish it. For example, you may have three environments: Development, Testing, and Production. The separate environments allow you to have different audiences testing and using solutions.
To publish the solution you have opened, complete the following steps:
- Click the Home tab.
- In the Solution toolbar, click Publish Solution. The Publish window opens.
- In the Process Instances Affected section, select one of the following options:
•Effective Immediately: new process instances only
Recommended: This option publishes the solution, so new process instances use this version of the solution and any process instances that are not complete will continue using the previous version.
•Effective Immediately: current and new process instances
This option publishes the solution so new and incomplete process instances use this updated version of the solution. This option may produce unexpected results with process instances that are not complete.
•Effective for process instances started on or after
This option allows you to schedule the date and time when the published solution will become active. The BPM 5 Process Engine will automatically handle the commencement of processes based on the date and time you choose.
- In the Comments section, type details about what changed in this publish set, so you and others can refer back to this information in the future.
- Click Publish. You published the solution.

If the solution or a solution item is still checked out to you, then you will be prompted to check in the solution or the solution item before publishing. You can publish the solution if items are checked out to other users, but their pending changes are not included in the publish set. |
