· Overproduction – identifies the production of materials or goods in the absence of demand, early production or ‘overproduction’
· Waiting – indicates the presence of NVA Time in the form of idle time, ‘wait’ time, queue time
· Transportation – describes unnecessary or excessive transportation or handling; this cost is usually caused by the failure to group like activities when participating in facilities planning, poor plant layout or poor flow
· Inappropriate Processing – indicates activity that is considered excessive or unnecessary to the completion of a process
· Unnecessary Inventory –waste in the form of finished goods or work-in-process materials that are ordered unnecessarily or held for long periods of time
· Excess Motion – indicates unnecessary or excessive movement of people or equipment; this cost is usually attributed to poor arrangement of resources at a workstation
· Rework – activity undertaken to correct quality issues, flaws, or failures
· Scrap – describes the presence of discarded units
