Converting a Simple Element to a Group Element

After adding a simple element to your data model, you may decide that the element needs to be split into additional elements. Instead of deleting this element, you can convert it to a group element and then add child elements to the converted group element.

For example, you may create a Name simple element and then decide to split Name into First Name and Last Name, so you convert the Name simple element to a group element and add two simple elements to the Name group element.

To convert a simple element to a group element, complete the following steps:

  1. Check out and open the data model you want to edit.

  2. In the Data Model window, right-click the simple element you want to modify. A shortcut menu is displayed.

  3. Select Convert to Group Element. The icon on the element changes.

  4. Click the save button. You converted a simple element to a group element.
