Importing a SharePoint Data Model

To simplify data model creation, you can create (or import) a data model based on the columns in a SharePoint list.

Note:
After importing the data model, any column changes made to the SharePoint list would also have to be made to the data model. The list and data model are not connected.

To import a SharePoint data model, complete the following steps:
  1. Check out the solution.

  2. Click the Create tab. The Solution Items ribbon menu is displayed.

  3. Click the drop-down arrow below the New Data Model button. A drop-down list is displayed.

  4. Click Import Data Model from SharePoint Resource. The Import Data Model window is displayed.

  5. Select a resource from the Select a SharePoint System Resource. The remainder of the fields are automatically populated.

  6. Click the Next. The List and Column Selection tab is displayed.

  7. Select a SharePoint list from the Select a SharePoint List drop-down list. The columns are displayed in the SharePoint name column.

  8. Select the columns you want to add to the imported data model, and click Next.

  9. Click Finish. You imported a SharePoint data model.
