Setting a Data Item Value to the Result of an Expression When an Activity Completes

To set a data item value to the result of an expression when an activity completes, complete the following steps:
  1. Check out the process.

  2. Click the activity that—when complete—you want it to set a data item value. The activity is highlighted.

  3. In the Design ribbon, click View Selection Properties. The activity properties window is displayed.

    Note:
    You can also view the activity properties window by right-clicking the activity and selecting View Properties.


  4. Click the Data Item Assignments tab. The Data Item Assignments options are displayed.

  5. In the Destination Data Item field, click the Data Item icon. The drop-down list is displayed.

  6. Select the data item to which you want to assign a value. The data item name is displayed in field.

  7. In the Value to Assign field, click the drop-down arrow. The input field editors are displayed.

  8. Select Expression Editor. The Expression Editor icon is displayed in the field.

  9. Click the Expression Editor icon. The Expression Editor window is displayed.

  10. Type the appropriate expression.

    Note:
    If you plan to use this same expression in multiple activities, you should consider using a calculated data item instead.


  11. Click OK. The expression is displayed in the field.  The result of this expression will be assigned to the destination data item when the activity completes.
