Auto-assigning a Task to a User in a Group

If you auto-assign a task to a user in a group, at run-time, the Task Service selects a user from the group based on the workload of the users in that group. Work load is the sum of the number of tasks multiplied by the weight of each task.
Example:
If you have 5 tasks and each has a weight of 50, then the workload is 250. Another user may have 3 tasks and each has a weight of 100, so that user has a higher workload (300) than you. Therefore, the user with the less workload will be assigned the task.
To auto-assign a task to a user in a group, complete the following steps:
  1. Check out the solution.

  2. Click the Create tab. The Solution Items ribbon menu is displayed.

  3. Click New Assignment Profile.

    Note:
You can also create a New Assignment Profile by right-clicking Assignment Profiles in the Solution Explorer. When the shortcut menu is displayed, select New User Assignment Profile.

  4. In the User Assignment Profile name field, type a name for the assignment profile.

  5. In the Assignee tab, select the Select the group from which a user will be automatically assigned a task option. The selected field is enabled.

  6. Select an editor and set the field to a static or dynamic value that is the name of the group with the users to which you want the tasks assigned.

  7. Set the due date and escalations with overdue actions, and notifications messages. Please refer to the corresponding topics for more information on configuring these values.

    Note:
Setting due dates, escalations, and notifications is optional.

  8. Click the save button. You auto-assigned a task a user in a group.
