Creating a SharePoint Template

To create document template that references a file saved on a SharePoint 2007 or 2010 site, complete the following steps:

  1. Check out the solution.

  2. Click the Create tab. The Solution Items ribbon menu is displayed.

  3. Select New Document Template. The Document Templates and Properties ribbon menus are displayed. The Document Template screen is displayed in the workspace.

    Note:
    In the Properties ribbon menu, Location Internal is selected by default.


  4. In the Properties ribbon menu, select Location SharePoint. The Document Template screen is displayed.

  5. In the Document Template name field, type a name for your template.

    Note:
    If you want to add a description, click the drop-down arrow against the document name. The Description field is displayed. You can now type a description.


  6. In the SharePoint System Resource field, click the System Resource icon. A drop-down list is displayed.

  7. Select the appropriate SharePoint system resource.

  8. In the Form or Document Library field, select an editor and set the field to a static or dynamic value. The expected value is the name or GUID of a Document Library.

  9. In the Relative Path to File within Library, select an editor and set the field to the relative path of the document library. The expected value is in the form of the relative path combined with the filename. For example, \subfolder\filename.ext. Click the save button. You created a SharePoint document template.
